Description of the picture:

The road in the rye - Grigoriy Grigorievich Myasoedov. 1881. Oil on canvas. 65x145

Heavy gold poured rye field in the picture. The field cuts the road stretching to a distant horizon. The road without a traveler is unthinkable. Judging by the clothes, the road for this person is a way of life. The author hid the traveler’s face from the public, thus generalizing his image. There is no road without a traveler, as there is no traveler without a road.
Over the field hung the endless evening sky. The viewer's eye is directed by the artist to where the sky meets the earth. The unattainable distance, where the clouds come from, is the traveler's goal.
It is surprising and admiring the artist's meticulousness and accuracy in the image of each spikelet, each blade of grass on the road.
Dark gold and rich green colors of the lower, earthly part of the picture are harmoniously complemented by an ensemble of white, pink and blue sky colors.
The evening atmosphere of the picture is filled with sadness. This is due to the stooped back of the traveler. His whole posture - doomed, sullen - creates a feeling of a certain hopelessness. It's amazing how one detail can give a special meaning to all the work.
