  • A country: France

The son of a drawing teacher and compiler of embroidery patterns is a direct route to artists, well, or to draftsmen. For the 18th century France, the draftsman and decorator is even better; this is a sure piece of bread. But the son of the draftsman of patterns, Nicolas Bush, from childhood showed such abilities that his father decided to send his son to the workshop of a true artist.
So Francois got the opportunity to learn from Lemoine and Kars - the most prominent masters of the first half of the 18th century in France.
Francois has always been very obedient, executive and flexible. He had no behavior problems and all of his teachers were delighted with his hard work and diligence. The future royal artist quickly gained experience, tried himself at once in several types of visual art. His father wanted to see him as a draftsman and decorator - Bush creates several wallpaper designs at once, which the customers liked. The teachers of Francois suggest that he try himself in the engraving, the student diligently puts the pictures on the copper plates and also not without success.
He received his first academic award at the age of 20. His picture on the biblical story met all the requirements of the fashion for Rococo. She was bright, elegant, decorative, emotional and shallow in meaning. It must be said that Francois Bouche quickly realized that the public required him and never deviated from the uncomplicated stock of methods, color, and plot choice dictated by fashion and aesthetic preferences of the aristocracy.
An important role in the creative life of Bush was played by the work on the creation of engravings on paintings by Watteau. This painstaking creative work over the past two years has allowed Bush to study the style of a talented master.
The study trip to Italy, which the artist made thanks to the scholarship of the academy, had practically no influence on the work of Bush. By this time, he had already decided in his manner and used a business trip to search for rich customers.
Real glory came to Bush in 1730. It was at this time that the artist is represented by Madame Pompadour - the royal mistress. Despite the fact that the artist never painted portraits, he gladly agrees to make several portraits of the king's lover. I liked the portrait and the golden times are coming for the master.
Boucher decorates and paints apartments in Versailles, works in other royal residences. Gradually, his works appear more piquancy. The eroticism of his plots arouses the displeasure of the Church, but all these delights appear according to the requirements of the Pompadour. The artist remains untouchable for the criticism of the clergy.
Numerous works by Bush on biblical, allegorical and everyday themes adorned the richest aristocratic salons. A hardworking and diligent craftsman, in addition to painting, draws up opera performances, sketches for the tapestry factory.
Creative luck turned away from Bush after the new style - classicism - began to gain popularity in Europe. Together with the new style all the savory and illusory works of the artist ceased to interest the public, and with the death of Pompadour, the king’s support also remained in the past.
The last years of the artist have passed in the silence of oblivion, but the financial situation of Bush has never been disastrous. After himself, he left a very solid state.
