Description of the picture:
Pink dress - Frederick Bazille. 1864. Oil on canvas. 102,5x186
In the painting "Pink dress" beautifully built in composition, the artist depicted a young woman sitting half-turned in a light pink dress that could be called smart, but a black apron, worn over a full skirt, does not allow this. Maybe the artist needed this black spot from some coloristic whims, say - for contrast? Do not know exactly. However, the dark tan on the face and hands of the girl more inclines us to the version that, probably, we have a girl who sat down, according to the artist, to rest after working on the stone parapet of the terrace located high above the city. Her gaze is fixed on the city, lit by the evening sunset sun.
By all indications, the picture may well be related to the early period of impressionism. Here and close attention to color, sunshine, coloristic contrasts, here and stopped a moment ... Only the technique of performance is still quite traditional.
